Customized top-level www extensions are coming soon

According to new rules unanimously passed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or Icann, at its meeting here, any company, organization or country will soon be able to apply for a new Web address extension, called a top-level domain.

Here are some interesting facts I've gathered from what I've listened to so far:

• We have reached an inflection point. There is more malicious software being created everyday than good software. 65% of unique software programs delivered to users were malicious.
  
• Identity theft: during the last two months of 2007, almost 50 million people across the globe had their identities exposed; 3 lost identities every second.
  
• Business Sectors: Of the data breaches, the government sector accounted for 20% of the overall data breaches. Note that this 20% accounted for over "60%" of the identities exposed.
  
• The vast majority of identity theft is actually committed with data that is not collected online. It's either dumpster-diving, robbing the mailbox, etc.
  
• Worldwide: There are 4 babies born every second. There are 25 cell phones sold every second. There are 40 million new wireless, telephone subscribers signed-up for cell phone every month.

Software updates

I have a new version of Weather1-lite (my lite version of Weather1). This new (beta) version allows you to choose from several tray icons - temperature icon, weather icon, or both! Customizations are available for the temperature icon as well. :)

Security bulletin - Photoshop CS2 and CS3

As of July 10, 2007, Adobe has released a security update to it's Photoshop CS2 and CS3 products. If you use Photoshop CS2 or CS3, be sure to update your Photoshop as soon as possible from here.

Weather1 fix

I've updated Weather1 to Version 7.20.
I made a fix to the "UpdateNow" button from the Wallpaper preferences window. The Inactive/Active column in the wallpaper options will be ignored.

My IconHider program continually gets in the press, so I’ve decided to start collecting the clippings. The latest is the April 2007 issue of PC-WELT magazine.
